The Delivery Architect is primarily responsible for the post sales technical delivery of Greenplum-centric Data Warehouse infrastructure, although it is likely that the position could also include a degree of pre-sales support for Greenplum initiatives. The Delivery Architect will play a lead role in the planning, design, development and delivery of database solutions working closely with sales and EMC core personnel as required.  The Delivery Architect will in effect have technical delivery responsibility for the overall solution once the client is engaged.

General Summary

As a lead subject matter expert, the Delivery Architect provides technical and consultative leadership for Greenplum technical solutions on a range of complex IT consulting engagements. These projects will include operational tasks as architecture design, database modeling for MPP Systems, database installation, SQL Development and customization, performance and tuning, integration with third party solutions and documentation for the customer. The Delivery Architect works closely with sales, EMC Core personnel, and the customer to ensure a smooth implementation and transition from start-up to integration/production mode. S/he has demonstrated knowledge of industry best practices in the implementation of complex technical solutions. Key responsibility is the successful execution of all consulting tasks including evaluating customers' operational requirements and proposing appropriate solutions. S/he demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and is seen by team members as an effective leader with excellent customer-facing skills.

Principal duties and responsibilities

• Develops detailed scoping and planning documentation and validates those documents with the client

• Creates design and technical specifications from IT operational requirements that may be passed to other staff for development

• Creates test plans from technical specifications and executes test plans created by others

• Develops programs using standard ETL, BI, reporting, and/or SQL tools

• Develops system architecture for complex applications as high-level design documents

• Evaluates the technical feasibility and effort required to perform the design and development duties above

• Tunes database applications to provide optimal performance

Requirements

•  At least 5 years’ experience in evaluating and selecting all infrastructure components such as software, hardware, database management systems, and networking capabilities

Advanced understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices

•  Experience with database platforms, including Oracle, SQL Server or PostgreSQL

•  Experience with MPP (Massively Parallel) Databases

•  Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting multi-   terabyte data warehouses including "appliances" such as any of the following: Greenplum, IBM Infosphere, Oracle or Oracle Exadata, Teradata, Vertica or Netezza

•  Hands-on experience with data architecting, data mining, large-scale data modeling, and business requirements gathering/analysis

•  Technical knowledge of Unix/Linux Operating System

•  Good command of spoken and written English
