RDE Department

• Work is conducted under limited direction and within general practices, provides technical expertise by independently determining and developing approaches to solutions for a wide range of complex software engineering problems. Understands company goals and practices and applies them when resolving a variety of problems. Uses judgment and creativity and sound technical knowledge to obtain and recommend solutions. Assignments may include new products as well as upgrades, and enhancements or fixes to existing products. Initial focus will be on optimizing existing and developing new data compression software products for use with different EMC products.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities:

• As part of Redundant Data Elimination, RDE, Advanced Development Group, will be responsible for designing and implementing software with considerable latitude
• Works with cross functional teams to integrate Compression and RDE code into EMC platforms and other software offerings
• Deals pro-actively on a wide range of technical and operational issues
• Sphere of influence is likely to extend outside of work group or department
• Represents the organization on project teams and may perform technical project leadership roles
• Contributes to the development and achievement of organizational goals and objectives
• Develops new software engineering methods or processes, re-evaluate existing processes
• Accountable for delivery of subsystem, anticipates and addresses issues proactively
• Analyzes and codes complex modules, defines data structures, and specifies test tools
• Writes high level design specs, unit test plans and integration test plans

Experience / Key Skills required:

• Strong C and C++ skills required
• Background in Linux system/platform development required
• Compression algorithms experience/background strongly desired
• Modern CPUs architecture knowledge strongly desired
• Bit level manipulation algorithms experience strongly desired
• Understanding of code generators (e.g. gcc) work strongly desired
• Experience in tuning application performance (using performance analysis) strongly desired
• Advanced data structures knowledge desired
• Experience in development using modular and API abstraction approaches desired
• Strong math skills desired
• Strong English skills desired
• Knowledge of appropriate development languages
• Knowledge of job associated database/software/documentation
