The Role

This role is a top technical leadership role providing highly complex solutions to the major Tier-One telecommunication operators across EMEA. It requires people that can provide technical leadership and ownership for customers, delivery partners and internal teams delivering solutions using Oracle Communications Global Business Unit (CGBU) portfolio of products.

The Solution Architect is typically the lead technical resource provided to the project team by Oracle CGBU consulting


The role with involve the following:

  • Customer facing role at many levels
  • Requires travel across EMEA and may involve up to 80% of time working at customer locations.
  • Working directly with senior customer stakeholders to understand their issues and objectives and through this influence, define and agree the solution and systems architecture.
  • Technical leadership of multi-disciplined technical teams through the whole solution delivery lifecycle covering definition, implementation, verification and deployment stages.
  • Provide guidance to the Oracle project manager and team with respect to estimating and planning implementation projects
  • Support the sales cycle working closely with sales account managers and pre-sales engineers to define account technical strategies, define technical solutions, provide pre-sales assistance and deliver to customers.
  • Developing and configuring OSS and/or BSS solutions for key Telecommunication domains such as IP, MPLS, Voice, VoIP, wireless (inc 3G), ATM, FR, SDH, PDH, optical and potentially other technologies and/or the services that are carried by them
  • Develop and manage technical relationships at all levels with customers and delivery partners to ensure Oracle products and solutions continue to support the customer’s requirements and work closely with product management to ensure customers requirements and industry trends are captured and considered.
  • Provide thought leadership and mentoring for team members
  • Deliver specific industry focused solution and architectural expertise
  • Understand the Oracle Communications Product Management vision for future product direction to ensure that solutions are aligned to maximize the potential of future product adoption and revenue generation.

Knowledge and Technical Skills:·        

  • Ability to create solutions to complex problems
  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively and promote internal education within the team
  • Detailed knowledge of Operational Support Systems.  An appreciation of middleware integration technologies is also preferred.
  • Clear understanding of the communications market place and the issues faced by operators
  • Ability to define a work breakdown structure/approach for an implementation of the architecture and estimate key implementation steps/stages.
  • Extensive experience of customer facing engagements for all stages of the solution delivery lifecycle
  • Extensive experience in the telecommunications industry with network technologies and network management processes.
  • 7 years+ experience of delivering major software deployment projects
  • Proven experience of delivering complex systems integration solutions and experience of the disciplines of delivering integrated solutions involving third parties.
  • Proven experience of OSS solutions and a detailed understanding of the challenges of delivering these solutions into Tier-One operators.
  • Commercially aware in all aspects of the solution delivery lifecycle
  • Experienced of software architectures and technologies including:- Oracle, UNIX, J2EE, XML, Java, C/C++, Middleware
  • Detailed understanding of some of the technologies used in the telcoms industry:- IP, MPLS, VoIP, POTS, ATM, FR and Wireless (inc 3G),
  • Experience with software systems and architectures often used by telecommunications operators

Education & Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent in Software Engineering or similar technical discipline.
  • 7+ Years experience in the architecture, design development and implementation of information technology systems/solutions for the communications industry
  • Extensive experience within the Telecommunications industry
  • RF citizenship
