Currently we are looking for Senior Java Architect/CTO for start-up project to join our team.

Responsibilities

• Play a CTO role: be a technology leader of the organization and consult the business with technical aspects in mind

• Design and build a highly scalable datastore and recommendation engine hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS)

• Refactor 2 existing production Drupal websites to integrate with this new datastore and recommendation engine via a REST API or your design

• Migrate an existing recommendation engine across to use the Mahout machine learning library, a later phase will scale this out using Elastic Map Reduce (EMR)

• Responsible for the full development lifecycle from working with the Product Owner to elicit requirements, through design, build and operational support

• Integrate with third party websites to provide recommendation and data services

• Leadership and coaching of junior team members

• Fulfill ScrumMaster role

Knowledge & Experience

• Experience of working in a fast paced startup or an agile software development team in a corporate environment

• Good understanding of product development using an agile software development methodology

• Must have: 5 years+ software development experience of both front end and back end solutions

• Strong Java skills

• Design and delivery of highly scalable web solution preferably using AWS and open source frameworks

• Strong background in mathematics and statistics

• Good RDBMS experience and noSQL databases, DynamoDB or Cassandra or HBase

Ideal Candidate would have:

• Hadoop or Elastic Map Reduce experience

• Used Mahout Machine learning library to deliver recommendations on large data sets

• Built and run a massively scalable web solution using AWS

• Experience of building and maintaining websites built with Drupal

• BSc, computer science and/or statistics and mathematics

• Interest in open source software and demonstrably engaged in the open source community

• Effective communicator verbal and written
